1/ The student has knowledge of biochemical processes occurring in the digestive tract during digestion and absorption of food.

2/The student has knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system.

3/The student has knowledge of the physiological functions of macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) and micronutrients (electrolytes, trace elements, vitamins)

Test of lecture material.

It is required to obtain at least 51% of the exam’s point and to obtain a positive grade from classes to pass the course.

The final grade of the subject consists of the exam grade (60%) and class grade (40%).

Lectures

1. Basics of physiology and anatomy of the digestive system. Physiological basis of food intake. Hunger, satiety (2.5 h)

2. A circadian rhythm and its influences on the functions of the digestive system (2.5 h)

3. Human metabolism and factors which can modifying this metabolism (2.5 h)

4. The nervous and hormonal systems in digestion and absorption of nutrients (2.5 h)

5. Physiology of the sensual modalities and their role in regulating food intake (sight, taste, smell) (2.5 h)

6. The protective function of the gastrointestinal tract - physiological microflora of the digestive tract: probiotics, prebiotics (2.5 h)

7. The protective function of the gastrointestinal tract - antibody in the gastrointestinal tract (2.5 h)

8. The importance of enzymes in the digestive process - enzymatic activity of saliva, gastric juice and pancreatic juice (1.5 h)
