(tylko po angielsku) 1. Introduction – outlining the topic of the International Political Economy, setting the agenda for next meetings, terms and conditions of the assessment method. Presentation of basics schools and streams of IPE. 2. Political leadership - basic approaches and grand challenges of the global economy and business in VUCA volatile uncertain complex and ambiguous world. 3. *Discussion of the assigned text – What is IPE? and case studies of selected leaders and their role in IPE – political leadership in the practice of IPE - presentation by students 4. Economic growth; growth diagnostics of D. Rodrik (D. Rodrik, One Economics, Many Recipes, Princeton University Press 2007) 5. *Case studies of selected countries – growth diagnostic in the practice of IPE- presentation by students 6. Foreign economic policy – embargo, sanctions etc. 7. Protectionism, international trade policy, cartels - political leadership in global governance practice 8. & 9. Crises – review of reasons and consequences; incl. the latest pandemic of COVID 19 and students’ discussion on “The Guardian - Coronavirus is reshaping Europe in dangerous ways (CER May 2020)” 10. *Discussion with active students’ involvement of the texts: 1) Kobrin, S. J. (2020). How globalization became a thing that goes bump in the night. Journal of International Business Policy, 3(3), 280-286; 2) Pandenomics – Policymaking in a post-pandemic world; Mark Cliffe 13 April 2020, voxeu.org; 3) Beata Javorcik, COVID-19 will revolutionise global supply chains, Baltic Rim Economies ISSUE # 2 29.5.2020 and 4) Louise Curran & Jappe Eckhardt, The backlash against economic globalization: How did we get here and what should be done? (tylko po angielsku) This discussion session provides a fresh perspective on issues pertaining to international political economy. Topics covered during the course will encompass selected aspects of the functioning of the modern world economy. The teaching method foresees a more dynamic interactive approach and is supposed to encourage students to further investigate the given problem. |

(tylko po angielsku) The course will offer students the possibility to acquire broad basic knowledge of modern International Political Economy. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of contemporary international political as well as economic relations. This course will discuss also issues of political leadership in international relations; crisis, including the 2008+ financial turbulences and the latest challenges of pandenomics; or the advanced form of internationalization i.e. foreign direct investments. Besides, the course will cover topics such as foreign economic policy; protectionism and digital transformation in an international context. |
