  • roczny wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się dla danego etapu studiów wynosi 1500-1800 h, co odpowiada 60 ECTS;
  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

1. The course is to deliver practical knowledge on nature, origins, dynamics and effects of financial crises. Students will get acquainted with examples of various such crises.

2. Students are to pick up topics for their bachelor’s theses, based on research problems discussed during lectures.

3. Students will be trained to become good communicators and presenters, skills that are essential in financial industry.

1. Definition and typology of financial crises – 5 hrs

- Currency crises

- Balance of payments crises

- Speculative currency attacks

- Sovereign borrowing and sovereign default. External debt default.

Internal debt default (also: high unexpected inflation)

- Banking crises – systemic and non-systemic ones

- Not classified crises: sudden stops

2. Interrelation of financial crises. Contagion effect – 2 hrs

3. Predicting financial crises – 4 hrs

- Currency crises predictors

- Indicators that a country may default

- Bank crises predictors

4. Crises in the Eurozone in years 2010-2013 – 6 hrs

5. The Great Recession and its aftermath (GFC - global financial crisis of

2008-2009) – 3 hrs

6. The East Asian financial crisis of 1997-1998 and its consequences - 2 hrs

7. The international debt crisis of the 1980s. The Brady plan – 3 hrs

8. The Great Depression – causes, consequences, policy responses – 3 hrs

9. What can be learned from financial crises? – 2 hrs

W1 Student has advanced knowledge about the contemporary international and global finance environment, understands the changes taking place in the international financial environment and is familiar with the concept of risks and types of risks occurring on international financial markets, as well as the impact these risks have on the modern economy, organizations (enterprises, financial institutions).

SKILLS

U1 Student is able to assess economic and financial phenomena taking place on the national and global scale, determine the opportunities and threats resulting from them for business entities and national economies and their mutual relations against the background of changing global conditions.

SOCIAL COMPETENCES

K1 Student is able to formulate and substantiate critical assessment of economic issues, including financial and social issues, and he/she is aware of the shortcomings and unreliability of his/her knowledge.
