Zakres tematów: |
(tylko po angielsku) The aim of this course is to introduce the basic techniques and strategies of textual analysis. First goal is teaching students to locate texts in their contexts, deducing important details of cultural, social and political setting from the information provided in the texts. The next goal is to teach students to pay close attention and to analyse the language and style. The third goal is to make students aware of the basic narratological devices and schemes. The final goal is to provide a methodological framework for interpretation. This course will introduce students to the basic theoretical background which will serve as the basis for discussion in class. A close reading of selected literary texts will allow students to discuss how the structure of texts can be analyzed, with particular focus on: 1. The concept and structure of narratives 2. Plot, story, characterization 3. Types of discourse 4. Focalization 5. Time in discourse 6. Pastiche, parody, anachronism 7. Paratext 8. Register 9. Intertextuality |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
(tylko po angielsku) No more than 3 absences are allowed: class attendance and participation are required. Students will be expected to come to class prepared to discuss the required reading materials. The final grade will be based on: - attendance and participation: 15%, - in-class tests: 20%, - homework assignments: 15%, - final test: 50%. |
